The Boy Who Climbed The Shard
Parable for Channel 4 (2020)
Broadcast Digital Winner: Best Short-Form Documentary
In July 2019, George King-Thompson, a nineteen year old urban free climber from Oxfordshire, made headlines around the world when he climbed Britain’s tallest building, The Shard – without a permit and without any ropes. Ever since he first saw the iconic building on a school trip to London, George was determined to climb it one day. Little did he know that he’d end up in prison – serving a six month sentence in the notorious HMP Pentonville.
Originally commissioned as a one hour documentary, but cancelled due to the pandemic, it was re-commissioned by Channel 4’s digital unit, 4Studio, and released across YouTube, Facebook and All4, reaching over 5 million organic views within 10 days of release.
